We check in on former North Carolina Point Guard Cole Anthony and the progress he has made in the league.
North Carolina struggled mightily in Cole Anthony’s lone season with the program. However, he gets a lot of unnecessary hate from the fan base.
Time with UNC
With the Tar Heels, Anthony averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4 assists. Often times, Anthony was forced into taking shots late in the shot clock. One of the best overall talents the Heels have had at point guard, his supporting cast did him very little favor. Only two other players averaged 10 or more points during that season. Before sustaining an injury, North Carolina was ranked as high as #5 in the country. Once Anthony went out, the wheels completely fell off. Had Anthony had the chance on another team, with as much talent as he had, North Carolina could’ve easily made a run in March.
How has he fared in the NBA?
Although he has dealt with injuries in the league, through his first three seasons, Anthony is averaging 14.2 points, 5 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He is on an Orlando Magic roster that is loaded with guards, but finds playing time. At times, Anthony shines and looks like a future superstar in the league. This past season, he was a participant in the dunk contest. As he continues to develop and hopefully see a boost in minutes, you can expect his stats to improve as well as his overall game. A team with Anthony running the show and the right pieces can be a contender. The New York native is only 23 years old and has shown promise. Magic fans have taken a liking to him, and his social media presence engages those who watch.
With his best basketball ahead of him, expect to hear the name Cole Anthony often in the coming years.
