There are multiple teams with ties to UNC in the tournament.

North Carolina will take on Michigan State today in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Not only is there a familiar face with the Spartans, but multiple teams in the west region have a connection to the Tar Heels.

West Region Storylines

Should they continue to win, here are teams they could face in the west that are familiar with North Carolina.

Michigan State/Round of 32Doug Wojcik is an assistant coach on the Spartans sideline. Not only was he in a similar role with UNC from 2000-2003, but he is also the father of current North Carolina guard Paxson Wojcik.

Alabama/Sweet 16– Freshman forward Jarin Stevenson is from Chapel Hill. His mother played at UNC, and he was seen as a lock to the program for a long time. Late in his recruitment, things changed, and he chose to play for Alabama.

Clemson/Elite 8– An ACC opponent, the Tar Heels split the season series with the Tigers. However, each team won on their opponents home court, and it was just the second time Clemson won in Chapel Hill.

Arizona/Elite 8– UNC transfer Caleb Love went to Arizona and won the PAC-12 Player of the Year. He has been very good and in control with the Wildcats. Love was a hero on the Tar Heels 2022 Final Four run. Should this matchup happen, it would likely be one of the most watched games of the year.
