Hampton is having a dominant year!

One of the best players in the country is not getting the recognition he deserves. North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton has been a big reason for the offense’s success. Only a sophomore, he has vastly improved from his first year with the Tar Heels. If UNC was undefeated, would he be a Heisman candidate?

Hard to Stop

Hampton is a bruising back that mows over anyone in his way. All year long, we have seen him carry defenders on his way to a first down.

Impressive Stats

  • Second in the NCAA in rushing yards with 1236 (14 away from first).
  • Second in rush yards per game with 123.6 (1.4 yards from first).
  • Fourth in the country in all-purpose yards with 1440.
  • 25th in yards per carry, averaging exactly 6.
  • Tied for seventh in rushing touchdowns with 13.
  • Tied for ninth in total touchdowns with 14.

Although it seems that the Heisman has become a quarterback award for the most part, Hampton has put up unreal numbers. North Carolina has run the ball much more under Chip Lindsey, and it has done wonders for the offense. UNC has gone from 67th in rush attempts per game last season to 12th in 2023-2024. Hampton has been a work horse, and his improvement has made him almost impossible to stop.

We will likely get Hampton for one more year, being that he is only a sophomore.
