The exhibition was a good early look at the new roster.

North Carolina took on St. Augustine’s in an exhibition on Friday night. These are tune-up games before the season officially starts. Not only does it give the team a chance to gel, but also gets the fans excited for the season. If you were watching that game, you see why this could be an exciting year. The Tar Heels dominated from start to finish but played together. The ball movement was impressive, and everyone got to play.

What We Saw

Returners

  • R.J. Davis: Scored 17 points in the first six minutes. Davis looked unstoppable. He was knocking down threes and getting to the basket whenever he wanted to. Finished with 22 points in just 24 minutes.
  • Armando Bacot: Could have done whatever he wanted. Only put up six shots but also took nine free throws, making seven of them. Of course, Bacot finished with a double-double.
  • Jalen Washington: Looked healthy and played very well. Knocked down 2/3 of his three-point attempts. Scored 14 points and added five rebounds.
  • Creighton Lebo- Unconscious! Lebo played seven minutes and hit 3/4 three-pointers. Scored 11 total points and added two assists.
  • Seth Trimble: Did not play.

Freshmen

  • Elliot Cadeau: North Carolina has a young star. Cadeau flashed his playmaking ability all night long. He had four assists, including an outlet pass reminiscent of Kendall Marshall. Cadeau also broke a defender’s ankles, making him fall, and later in the game, got to the rim for a highlight dunk.
  • Zayden High: He may not have gotten the credit he deserved in high school. Similar to his performance at the ‘late night’ event, he played with a lot of energy and made a ton of plays. High was the surprise of the night for sure, scoring 1o points and adding 11 rebounds. On top of that, he blocked three shots.

Transfers

  • Harrison Ingram: Had a great first game at Carolina. Ingram did it all, getting to the rim, finding the open man, and knocking down threes. That is exactly the kind of player UNC wanted when they recruited him out of high school, and now Ingram will shine in Carolina blue. He finished the night with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocks!
  • Cormac Ryan: Although he didn’t play in the second half after rolling an ankle, Ryan looks like a perfect UNC wing. He shot the ball well and scored 10 points on 4/6 shooting.
  • Paxson Wojcik: Another guy who can do it all. Wojcik was all over the court. UNC needs a guy like this who can impact the game in multiple ways from the wing. Wojcik scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had three assists.
  • James Okonkwo: Playing a lot of clean-up around the rim, Okonkwo held the paint down. He had two highlight blocks and added four points and five rebounds.
  • Jae’Lyn Withers: Did not play.

There is a lot to be excited for this season!
