The ACC tournament is staying in North Carolina for years to come.

On Thursday, the ACC announced when North Carolina would host many different sports tournaments. With the state being a middle ground for the conference, it makes perfect sense. The attendance when it is held in Greensboro or Charlotte is always much higher.

Returning to Roots

When the ACC tournament started, it was hosted in Reynolds Coliseum. Then, it would change locations and move between Greensboro, Charlotte, Maryland, Washington, D.C., once in Atlanta and Tampa, and recently, Brooklyn. The tournament was long the best in college basketball, with the conference being the main power in the sport. Now, for five straight years, the tournament will be played in North Carolina. To this day, the four schools in North Carolina remain the ones to win the tournament the most (Wake Forest and Georgia Tech have both won it four times).

Most Frequent Host?

Currently, it is Greensboro that has hosted the ACC tournament the most, doing so 30 times. After that, it’s Charlotte, where they have played it 15 times, followed by Raleigh, where Reynolds was home from 1954 to 1966. Out-of-state sites have hosted it 15 times total.

With the ACC tournament set to stay in North Carolina, will you attend any of the games?
