Bored during the dog days of summer? Fear not, because college basketball recruiting never sleeps. Boogie Fland, a top prospect in the class of 2024 recently released the eight colleges he’s deciding between, and your North Carolina Tar Heels are one of the finalists.

Who is Boogie Fland? What could he bring to Chapel Hill? Let’s dive in.

About Boogie Fland

Fland is a five-star recruit out of White Plains, New York who attends Archbishop Stepinac, the same school senior R.J. Davis attended! Fland is the second-rated player from the state of New York, behind only Ian Jackson (another future Tar Heel). If Fland chooses North Carolina over the other seven schools on his list (Kentucky, Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, St. Johns, UConn, Indiana), North Carolina would emerge as far and away the best recruiting class in the country for 2024. This would be a huge step forward for Head Coach Hubert Davis.

What He Could Bring to UNC

Standing 6’3, Fland is a modern point guard in the truest sense. He is dynamic with the ball in his hands, but his trajectory in college will be determined by how he grows playing off the ball. While he is comfortable shooting off the catch, he thrives firing off the bounce.

Fland would bring much-needed energy to Chapel Hill. Averaging just under 3 steals a game, he is a menace in transition. He also is GREAT attacking the basket, where he shoots 71%. Over 30% of his field goal attempts (FGA) come from this range.

In total, Fland would be the biggest recruit since Harrison Barnes chose North Carolina almost 14 years ago. No, Fland is not the best prospect in the country, but his arrival would put a firm end to this era of futility, and mark a return to relevance on the recruiting trail for North Carolina.
