UNC will stay in Hawai’i for a while!

The University of Hawai’i just announced that they would be hosting North Carolina on November 22nd. According to the article, the two were supposed to play in 2020, but Covid-19 caused a cancellation. This will give the Tar Heels another opponent right before the Maui Invitational.

Headed Way West

UNC has been scheduled to play in the Maui Invitational, which takes place from November 25th to November 27th, for some time now. They will be joined in the event by Auburn, Dayton, Colorado, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, and Uconn. It is shaping up to look like a battle of multiple ranked teams.

Before the Maui Invitational takes place, North Carolina will play against the University of Hawai’i. Former Tar Heel Justin McKoy transferred to the Rainbow Warriors before last season, and had a good season, averaging 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in his final year of college basketball. The team finished with a 20-14 record overall.

Series History

These two programs have faced one another just once. In 2016, the year that UNC last won a national championship, the Tar Heels would play in Honolulu and come away with an 83-68 win. Justin Jackson, Isaiah Hicks, Tony Bradley, Nate Britt, and Kennedy Meeks all finished in double-figures.

Spending a week in Hawai’i should be a fun time for the basketball team!
