John Calipari Says UNC is a “Final 4-Level Team”, Praises RJ Davis

High praise from Calipari.

North Carolina and Kentucky just had a high-level, tournament-type game in December. The two blue-bloods traded runs throughout the game, with the Wildcats eventually coming out on top. Although UNC lost, Kentucky head coach John Calipari had good things to say about the Tar Heels.

Final Four Team?

There is no doubt that this team is showing up and fighting harder than teams in years past. However, they can’t seem to get over the hump and consistently beat really good teams. Kentucky is just that. They competed with Kansas on the Jayhawks home court. They only have one head-scratching game. The Tar Heels now sit with three losses, none of which are bad, but in all three, North Carolina had a chance.

Kyle Tucker of the Athletic got a nice quote from the Kentucky coach after the game.

UNC is a Final Four-Level Team”, said Calipari. In the same interview, he called RJ Davis one of the best guards in the country.

There are issues that the Tar Heels must fix, but there are reasons for optimism.

Man on Fire

Davis is having an incredible stretch of games. He has scored at least 23 points in each of the last six games. In those games, Davis is shooting over 40% from the field. The senior is playing like an All-American.

UNC has another big game on Wednesday night against Oklahoma.
