Washington is showing growth!

North Carolina big man Jalen Washington had his best game in a Tar Heel uniform last night against Charleston Southern. Not just because of his scoring, but his rim protection was on display as well. Washington has the potential to do great things at UNC, and time will tell if that comes to fruition.

Career High

In just 16 minutes played, Washington scored the most points of his North Carolina career with 17. On top of that, he added 7 rebounds and 2 blocks while not committing a single foul. Even better, it was efficient, shooting 77% and knocking down two three-pointers. His development will be a focus point for UNC, as more minutes will allow preseason All-American Armando Bacot some time to rest and show if the Tar Heels have their center of the future.

Taking A Step

Washington is just a sophomore. Last season, he wasn’t expected to be a huge factor for multiple reasons. During high school, Washington suffered two major knee injuries. Those things take a lot of time to come back from. Before he got hurt, he was a 5-star prospect and considered to be one of the best big men in all of high school hoops. Even though injuries will impact your ranking and development, he ended up being a 4-star anyway.

Now in his second season, Washington is taking steps. He’s averaging 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in limited minutes. Not counting walk-on Rob Landry, Washington has the highest true shooting and effective field goal percentage on the team.

Washington’s play is promising!
