Hubert Davis was key in landing Jackson.
North Carolina 5-star signee Ian Jackson recently shared why he chose UNC over Kentucky. In a clip shared on Instagram that is from his YouTube podcast, @CaptainJackPod, Jackson revealed his plans to originally go elsewhere, but it was Hubert Davis who won him over in the end.
Why UNC?
In the clip shared to Instagram, Jackson was asked why he chose the Tar Heels. He responded, “Bro, HD, bro. I tell everybody that bro, Hubert Davis. I wanted to go to Kentucky.” When asked what happened, Jackson said, “Nothing really happened, it was Hubert Davis though. He’s just a family guy, bro, just a good, genuine guy you want to be around. Not saying Coach Cal wasn’t. And then the campus. There’s something about the campus and how much history the school has got. If you go there, you’re going to be like, why would you not want to be here?”
When elaborating on those thoughts, Jackson says, “Good coach, and he understands what I want to do. He talked to me, he knows my plan, and I’m with it.”
What to Expect
As we’ve recapped before, Jackson is an elite scorer. He does it at all three levels and isn’t afraid of the moment. Jackson is an instant-impact guard and will be a major piece on next year’s roster.
