It was a great year for Davis and the program!
North Carolina Head Coach Hubert Davis was named the ACC Coach of the Year yesterday. It is just his third year as the leader at UNC, but he has already made a major impact on the program.
The Man For the Job
What a turnaround season it has been. Coach Davis made big changes over the offseason that have revitalized North Carolina. He took a program that had lost double-digit games in back-to-back seasons to the National Championship game in his first season. Then, after struggling last season and missing the NCAA tournament, Davis made changes that have made UNC one of the best teams in the country.
This is the first season under Davis that has a roster that is, for the most part, completely constructed by him. In the offseason, Davis grabbed huge additions in Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan, and Elliot Cadeau. All three of them start for UNC and are a major reason for the team’s success. Heading into the ACC Tournament, the team is 24-6, and won the ACC regular season title.
Promising Future
Not only has Davis done a fantastic job coaching the team this season, but he has also proven that he is an excellent talent evaluator. The way he is using the transfers has to be enticing to players who jump into the portal.
Davis is also bringing in an elite high school class. Currently, there are two 5-star prospects and one 4-star committed to the program.
The criticism was loud in his first two seasons, but Davis has silenced a lot of the doubt with this year’s team.
