UNC nearly went perfect in Chapel Hill.

With the regular season complete, we take a look back at North Carolina’s dominance inside the Dean E. Smith Center. UNC played 15 games there, losing just one that was very close. It was an impressive feat that is extremely hard to do in college basketball. It helps that the Smith Center averaged the most fans per game in the entire country!

Elite At Home

This is no knock on how the team did on the road. UNC only lost two away and three neutral-site games. The season has been a success overall, but at home, the Tar Heels had a major advantage. They finished the regular season 14-1 in the Smith Center.

Home vs. Away Averages

UNC averaged 87.5 points per game inside the Smith Center while giving up just 70. Had the team not gotten off to a slow start against Clemson, they would be undefeated at home for the year. This is much different than past seasons, where teams seemed to be able to win in Chapel Hill.

In away and neutral-site games, UNC averaged 76.06 points and gave up 70.12 points per game. The defense was consistent, but the offense was not as good on the road.

It should always be hard for opposing teams to win in Chapel Hill!
