The ACC Tournament has started and the Diamond Heels are rolling.

Diamond Heels start ACC Tournament with Two Big Wins

North Carolina entered the ACC Tournament as the 7-seed. Put in Group B alongside 2-seed Virginia and 11-seed Georgia Tech, the Heels started off hot.

UNC stings the Yellow Jackets

In game one Georgia Tech started the game by walking Mac Horvath. Subsequently, Catcher Tomas Frick, First Baseman Hunter Stokely and recent lineup addition, Patrick Alvarez drove in runs. This gave the Heels a 3-0 lead that they would never give up. Pitching looked great, not giving up a run until the 5th inning and giving the offense a chance to build a lead. The bats would remain hot throughout. Scoring one run in the 4th, three runs in the 6th and four runs in the 9th before winning the game 11-5. Carolina defeated Georgia Tech in three of the four games between the schools this year.

Heels down the Hoos

The Diamond Heels then faced off against 2-seed Virginia. After the 4th inning, North Carolina led 4-1. The Heels gave up one more run in the 6th before scoring three runs themselves in each of the 7th and 8th innings. The 10-2 final score is big for North Carolinas confidence. This is a Virginia team that beat the Heels twice earlier in the year and are ranked 12th nationally. Tomas Frick was a star, accounting for three hits and five RBIs. Starter Jake Knapp provided exactly what the North Carolina needed; good pitching. Knapp went 5.2 Innings, giving up only 5 hits and 2 runs. Additionally, reliever Dalton Pence allowed 2 hits and no runs.

Next Up

The Diamond Heels will face off against the winner of 3-seed Clemson or 6-seed Boston College on Saturday at 5 P.M. On the other side of the bracket, 1-seed Wake Forest will play the winner of 4-seed Miami and 9-seed N.C. State.

As reigning ACC Tournament Champions, North Carolina knows what it takes to win this event.
