That’s a lot of Tar Heels!

After North Carolina’s fifth straight win over Miami, the ACC named its players of the week. On that list, four Tar Heels were named. UNC struggled in the first half but made adjustments out of the break and took a big lead over the Hurricanes. That was due in large part to the group of UNC players honored.

Quarterback of the Week

It wasn’t his best game, but Drake Maye still threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns. For some, that is a career game. For Maye, it’s just another day. He has been great this year, and it is easy to see why Maye is looked at as a top draft pick.

Running Back of the Week

Omarion Hampton has vastly improved from his freshman year. He has been a difference-maker for the Tar Heels this season. Against a very good Miami run defense, Hampton ran for 197 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 20 yards. His emergence as RB1 has given UNC another weapon on a loaded offense. On Saturday night, Miami could not stop him.

Wide Receiver of the Week

He has arrived. In just his second game for the UNC, Tez Walker caught six passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns. North Carolina missed out on his talent for the first four weeks, but he looked like a superstar on Saturday night. Walker made big play after big play, and the Tar Heels likely don’t win that game without him.

Co-Linebacker of the Week

One of the leaders on a much better defense than last year, Cedric Gray, continues to impress. Whether in coverage or stopping the run, he has been on a tear this season. Gray had 10 tackles, seven of which were solo, a fumble recovery, and an interception. He did it all, and the senior has never lost to Miami in his career.

This UNC team continues to impress!
