As Summer League approaches, four players who saw time for the Tar Heels will participate.

Summer League 2023 starts tonight, July 3rd. This gives an opportunity to players from all over to show off what they have and try to make an NBA roster. It also gives rookies and players who were injured last season to come in and show off their skill set. This year, we will see four UNC players who recently were in the program show off their game.

The Heels

  • Garrison Brooks– Suiting up for the New Orleans Pelicans, Brooks will look to make their roster. Most recently, he was playing for the Knicks G-League affiliate. In 27 minutes per game, Brooks averaged 12.5 points and 10.2 rebounds. He has shown promise and had multiple big games. Brooks played four seasons at North Carolina before using his fifth year and heading to Mississippi State.
  • Brady Manek– Manek played for the Hornets Summer League team last year, before making the move to Australia and having a great first pro season. He is being heavily pursued by European teams at the moment. Manek played one season for the Tar Heels. He provided leadership, much-needed toughness, and shooting for a team that made it to the national championship game. This Summer, Manek will play for the Atlanta Hawks franchise.
  • Leaky Black– A five-year player at North Carolina, Black was the Tar Heels best defensive player for multiple seasons. He is an elite defender that can guard multiple positions. He held the number two pick in this year’s draft, Brandon Miller, to 4 of 21 shooting when they were matched up. After getting a contract with the Charlotte Hornets, Black will show off his talent for the first time as a pro.
  • Pete Nance– After a four-year stint at Northwestern, Nance came to Chapel Hill for his final season. Averaging 9.7 points and 5.5 rebounds, Nance was a starter the whole year. Furthermore, Nance will get a chance to show off his game for the team his dad famously played for, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Good luck to the Tar Heels playing. Lets hope they can all prove themselves and make an NBA roster!
