A move that is hard to believe.

Styles is now at his third school.

Former North Carolina and Georgetown wing Dontrez Styles has committed to NC State. With UNC, Styles played sparingly. This caused him to transfer to Ed Cooley and Georgetown. There, he would see his minutes rise significantly, and in turn, his stats did as well.

Coming Back Home

Styles is a native of Kinston, North Carolina. He was a heavily recruited 4-star out of high school, especially with the in-state schools. Ultimately, Styles would choose the Tar Heels over many other suitors.

He averaged just under six minutes per game in his two seasons in Chapel Hill. However, in the round of 32 against Baylor, Styles knocked down a three in overtime that would set the tone for the rest of the game.

After his sophomore season with UNC, he committed to Ed Cooley and Georgetown. He would play 33.5 minutes per game, averaging 12.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. Although the Hoyas were not good, he was needed and was the team’s second-leading scorer.

Crossing Over

Although this would have never been thought of 10 years ago, the portal era has changed things. Going to a rival school is usually frowned upon. Just last offseason, Florida State’s Matthew Cleveland would leave the program and transfer to Miami.

In football, North Carolina gained a secondary piece in Jakeen Harris, who had been at NC State for multiple years.

How will Styles be received when he returns to Chapel Hill?
