Excitement is Gone, UNC Back to its Old Ways

UNC loses another game they were favored in.

North Carolina headed to Atlanta to face off against a struggling Georgia Tech team. The Tar Heels were coming off a bad loss to Virginia, who now only has two wins. It’s the perfect storm, being mad and playing a bad team in a get-right game, right? Of course not. North Carolina let Georgia Tech run all over them. That defense, which looked so good early in the season, reverted back for the second week in a row. The game plan to beat UNC looks simple now: run the ball.

Bright Spots

The offense actually played very well. Drake Maye threw for 310 yards and had three total touchdowns. Omarion Hamton dominated once again, finishing with 153 rushing yards and two touchdowns. British Brooks also ran for 56 yards and a score. A trio of pass catchers: Bryson Nesbit, Tez Walker, and J.J. Jones, all played well. 42 points should be enough to beat anyone in the country.

Flashback

Here we are again, with the UNC defense getting dominated. The crazy thing is, they gave up no points in the first or third quarter. That doesn’t matter when you let a bad team rush for 348 yards in total. Letting them pass for 287 isn’t going to help either. It was a pitiful performance, especially in the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets ran right up the middle and barely got touched. They broke big run after big run, similar to Virginia just a week ago. It has been much talked about since the game ended, but the defensive personnel put on the field for obvious run plays made no sense.

UNC will end the season with Campbell, Duke, Clemson, and NC State.
