After reclassifying, Elliot Cadeau is still a top guard in his new class.

Now joining the 2023 class, Elliot Cadeau is ranked as the number two point guard and twelfth overall player, according to 247Sports.

Scouting

As we wrote about when he committed, Elliot Cadeau brings a lot to the table for the Tar Heels. His passing ability and smooth dribbling opens up opportunities for everyone around him.

How he Improves the Team

Should Cadeau start, R.J. Davis will be able to play off the ball more. Davis is an incredible scorer and having him come off of screens and move without the ball should help the Tar Heels recent shooting struggles. Another issue the Tar Heels have had is transition baskets and entry passes. Those two actions were a staple under Roy Williams. Cadeau will be able to find Armando Bacot and throw the passes into the post that North Carolina has missed for the last few years. Through his high school and AAU career, Cadeau knew to push the ball after a rebound or a made basket and score quick. Transition buckets will not be hard to come by with Elliot Cadeau running the show.

Reclassification Woes?

When a player reclassifies, it is tough to project how good they will be right away, especially point guards. An example of this is former Indiana guard, Khristian Lander. He never quite found his footing, transferred to Western Kentucky and is still struggling. The difference with Cadeau is, he will be 19 years old when the season starts. Additionally, he has played for Swedens National Team against guys much older than himself. This puts Cadeau at a much more advanced stage than other players who have reclassified.

Expectations

Cadeau is good enough to win ACC Freshman of the Year. He posses the tools that will lead to a long career. We have said it over and over but Cadeau is an elite passer. North Carolina has not had an assist man like this since Kendall Marshall. Many believed him to be the best passer in high school, regardless of class. Cadeau should be able to open the court up for those around him and make the ball move better than it has in recent years. Although his passing is often highlighted, there is so much more to his game. Cadeau is a great athlete, being able to get to the rim at will. He has shown that he can create space for his jumper and score at all three levels.

With Cadeau making this decision, there is plenty for North Carolina fans to be excited about.
