UNC continues to keep the recruiting train rolling!

On Tuesday, North Carolina received a commitment from 2025 defensive lineman Gus Ritchey. He hails from Pittsboro, North Carolina, and goes to the same high school as 2024 basketball commit Drake Powell! It is early, but Ritchey is already ranked as high as a 4-star on some recruiting services. It was only in February that he earned an offer from North Carolina.

The Player

Ritchey is a 6’2, 230 pound guy who plays both defensive line and tight end. He projects to play college on defense. Currently, Ritchey is the 363rd ranked player in the country, according to 247Sports. He played varsity football as a freshman and continues to project as a top player in the state for 2025. Additionally, Ritchey made multiple visits to Chapel Hill before committing. He chose North Carolina over offers from Florida, Duke, NC State, Oregon, and many others.

Current Class

Ritchey is North Carolina’s second commit for the 2025 class. The other, Bryce Baker, is an in-state quarterback. Having early pledges from guys on both sides of the ball can only be seen as a positive. They can each recruit and help build the class. Plus, both are from North Carolina, showing that there is still an emphasis on keeping players home and succeeding.

As the class continues to grow, expect North Carolina to land many more top prospects, especially in-state.
