Newest Commitment

North Carolina gained a commitment Monday. Timothy Lawson, who plays both football and baseball made his decision to join the Tar Heels. Standing at 6’4, Lawson is a 3-star tight end according to 247Sports. He also pitches for Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Florida. Lawson is a left-hander, and was previously committed to Central Florida, solely for baseball.

Lawson made his commitment known on Twitter, saying “I am excited to announce my commitment to play Football as well as Baseball at the University of North Carolina! I would like to thank my coaches, friends, teammates and especially my parents for all of the support I have gotten. Thank you to my coaches at Bishop Verot for the help along the way, and thank you to all of the coaches at UNC for bringing me into their family. Go Heels!”

Lawson’s commitment comes just one day after visiting campus.

Additionally, in his junior season, Lawson caught 32 passes for 469 yards and a touchdown. He helped his team reach the Florida 2s State Semi-Finals. Lawson is North Carolina’s second Tight End commit for 2024.

For baseball, already throwing in the high 80’s as a left-hander will give any player good optics. Lawson has competed in tournaments and showcases throughout his young career. Another season of high school may see him becomes a nationally known prospect. He will bring much needed pitching help to the Tar Heels.

Lawson is North Carolina’s 14th commitment for the 2024 class.
