The recruiting train is rolling in Chapel Hill as they land another commitment!
North Carolina received a commitment from 2024 Safety Jalon Thompson. The 3-star from Orlando, Florida, has been recruited by the Tar Heels for a short time. He visited Chapel Hill multiple times and enjoyed each trip. Thompson went on two official visits in June to North Carolina and his hometown school, UCF. North Carolina did enough to eventually land his commitment.
The Player
Jalon Thompson is a 6-foot, 170-pound Safety playing for Olympia High School. On top of playing football, Thompson also runs track. He is a great athlete and is ranked 640th nationally on 247Sports. In a quote to InsideCarolina, Thompson credited North Carolina’s academics and athletics as key reasons to join the program. Thompson chose the Heels over offers from UCF, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Virginia.
2024 Class
Thompson is North Carolina’s 23rd commitment for this class. With multiple safeties and cornerbacks pledging to the Tar Heels, the secondary should be set for the coming years. Currently, the class is ranked number 17 in the country, and number three in the ACC. This is around the ranking North Carolina saw in the years before Larry Fedora’s final two seasons. Defense seems to be the main focus in this class, as the offense will continue to have multiple weapons for seasons to come.
With multiple scheduled commitments coming up, expect the Tar Heels class to continue to improve.
