After a long recruitment, UNC lands an in-state receiver.

Mack Brown and the Tar Heels have landed one of their top wide receiver targets in the 2024 class. Jordan Shipp, a 4-star receiver from Charlotte, North Carolina, pledged to UNC on Sunday. He had been recruited by North Carolina for a while and visited the campus numerous times.

The Player

Shipp is a 6’2, 195-pound receiver out of Charlotte. He plays high school ball for Providence Day School, a team loaded with college talent. Both his quarterback and another receiver on the team are Michigan commits who were heavily recruited by the Tar Heels. According to his MaxPreps account, Shipp had over 1,000 yards last season while scoring 15 touchdowns. Additionally, he is ranked as the 425th best player in the country.

The Recruitment

This was a recruitment that had twists and turns. With a top three of North Carolina, Michigan, and NC State, this one came down to the Tar Heels and Wolverines. Michigan had two things working in its favor: his high school quarterback and another receiver from his school are both committed to Michigan. However, proximity to home worked in North Carolina’s favor. Could Shipp end up recruiting those Michigan pledges to stay home and play for UNC? Time will tell.

Current Class

With Shipp committing to North Carolina, the Tar Heels now have the 22nd-ranked class in the country. With more commitments scheduled for UNC prospects, that ranking will continue to rise.
