A fan favorite in his lone season at UNC, White agreed to a new deal.
Coby White has decided to continue his playing career with the Chicago Bulls. On Friday, he signed a 3-year, $40-million dollar deal. Drafted in 2019, White has proven himself as a good role player. Always speedy, he has shown his transition fluidity and ability to create off the dribble. Playing behind former all-stars Demar Derozan and Zach Lavine, White has not had a chance to fully show off what he can do.
Spectacular Season
White played at North Carolina for one year. In that season, he took over the starting point guard role and flourished. White averaged 16.1 points and 4.1 assists. With his ability to push the pace, White was the perfect point guard for a Roy Williams led team. Against Syracuse, White put up a career-high 34 points. He also scored 33 against both Texas and Virginia Tech, in games that he looked unstoppable. If not for Roy Williams telling him to go pro, White has said he would have likely returned for his sophomore season. The backcourt of Coby White and Cole Anthony could have been one of the best in Carolina history. The North Carolina team that Coby White was on was great, and legend has it, if not for the team catching the flu in the tournament, could’ve made a deep tournament run.
Windy City Seasons
Chicago drafted White with the 7th pick in the 2019 NBA draft. In his four seasons, White has averaged 12.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. As previously stated, he has had to take a back seat to veteran guards and hasn’t had a chance to play starter minutes. Hopefully, with the NBA’s constant roster movement, White will get a chance to show the Bulls that he is a more than capable player who deserves more minutes.
