Just a week away from Carolina basketball!

North Carolina will begin its 2023-2024 season in just seven days. It has been a long offseason, especially considering how last year went. With a huge roster overhaul and so many fresh faces, this season is set to be much different than last. UNC brought in five transfers and two freshmen. Only seven players remain from 2022-2023, and three of those are walk-ons. Expect a new mindset and style of play.

What We Know

North Carolina has played two preseason games: a ‘secret scrimmage’ and an exhibition.

  • The scrimmage was against #10 FAU, a final four team from last year. Apparently, UNC won by 16 and handled the Owls.
  • The exhibition against Division Two St. Augustine’s went how you would expect. The Tar Heels won 117-53.

The starting lineup that has been used was: R.J. Davis/Cormac Ryan/Paxson Wojcik/Harrison Ingram/Armando Bacot. No one in that lineup is a freshman or sophomore. It is a veteran squad who has been through the grind of a college basketball schedule.

What We Don’t Know

  • How will the bench be used? There is plenty of talent there. Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year Elliot Cadeau has been coming off of the bench. Jalen Washington looked good in the exhibition and was reportedly fantastic in the scrimmage. Louisville transfer Jae’Lyn Withers has been talked about all offseason. Seth Trimble returns and will be one of the better defenders on the team.
  • Can this team respond to adversity? With so much experience, you would hope the answer is yes. North Carolina’s schedule is loaded with tough games this season. Will UNC go back to its old ways where they beat ranked teams consistently?

Excitement is building for another great season!
