Love showed love to Davis after winning the award.

Today, North Carolina guard RJ Davis won the Jerry West Award, given to the top shooting guard in the nation. In response, former Tar Heel guard Caleb Love tweeted a response, showing support for his old teammate. Both had amazing seasons and were up for the award.

Apart but Better

Davis and Love were part of North Carolina’s 2020 recruiting class. They played with each other for three seasons, making a run at the national championship in 2021-2022. After the third season, things were no longer working, and Love decided to transfer to Arizona. That allowed for the two ball-dominant guards to thrive in separate places.

In their first year apart, Davis averaged 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. The Tar Heels were a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and Davis won ACC Player of the Year, the Jerry West Award for the nation’s top shooting guard, and First-Team All-ACC and First-Team All-America.

Love had a great season as well. With the Wildcats, he put up 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He was named the PAC-12 Player of the Year, Third-Team All-America, and First-Team All-Pac-12, and was also one of the five finalists for the Jerry West Award.

Love For A Teammate

After it was announced that Davis had won the Jerry West Award, Love tweeted “Legendary 4”, congratulating Davis for his accomplishment. A lot has been rumored about their relationship, but every time one is mentioned in front of the other, there seems to be nothing but love.

Congratulations to both on a fantastic year!
