This is the second former Tar Heel looking for his second transfer.

Former North Carolina wing Dontrez Styles is entering the transfer portal. It will be his second time doing so, similar to Tyler Nickel, who went from UNC to Virginia Tech to Vanderbilt. Both saw significantly more minutes last year than they did with the Tar Heels.

A Second Transfer

Styles was a 4-star recruit out of Kinston, North Carolina. Although he did not see much time in his two seasons in Chapel Hill, he was able to carve out a big role for Georgetown. On the year, Styles was second in scoring for the Hoyas, averaging 12.8 points per game. He also added 5.8 rebounds and shot almost 37% from three.

At UNC, Styles never played more than 5.9 minutes per game. But with Georgetown, he averaged 33.5 minutes and showed major value. During the team’s run to the national championship game in 2022, Styles nailed a huge three in overtime against Baylor that helped win the game.

Next Up?

Styles was highly sought after when he left Chapel Hill. Now that he has shown off his game in big minutes with Georgetown, it is likely that he will have many suitors. This recruitment could get interesting fast.

Will Styles come back to his home state, or will he look elsewhere for opportunity?
