ACC Looking More Likely to Add Three Teams

Realignment and expansion are all the buzz in the college sports world right now.

Not long ago, rumors that the ACC was looking to add Cal, Stanford, and SMU. It built steam until, finally, the ACC members, including Notre Dame, voted on it.

The Vote

To join, those schools needed 12/15 schools to say yes. 11 did. Now, it is sounding like one of the schools who voted no, likely Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, or NC State, is going to flip their vote, pulling these three schools into the ACC. What we know is that Florida State will not be the one to flip.

What it Means

Should they overturn the original vote and allow those three schools into the ACC, it will force the current schools to travel to Texas and California regularly. Although those schools each bring something of their own (Cal-Academics/Stanford- Women’s Basketball, Olympic Sports/SMU-Football, Texas Market) it will make for a lot of miles on the student athletes. That’s who this is supposed to be all about, right? Now you will have schools mainly on the east coast flying across the country on a weeknight for one game. With school and the competition, the mileage will put added stress on those participating. Although those schools do bring something, none of them are great at revenue sports.

If not for greed among the leaders of college programs, none of these changes would be happening.
