Brandon Marcello of 247Sports isn’t so sure Brown will be back next season.
North Carolina head coach Mack Brown is 72 years old. He has revitalized a program that was in desperate need and recruited with the blue bloods of college football. Brown took a team that had won five games in two years to a team that hasn’t missed a bowl since he came back. Just last season, the Tar Heels won nine games and currently sit at 8-2 with at least three games remaining.
Retirement Coming?
According to 247Sports Brandon Marcello, industry insiders believe this will be his last season. In an article about the coaching carousel, Marcello had this to say about Brown: “Chatter about his future is increasing among agents and coaches, particularly after an emotional Brown started tearing up following a 47-45 win against Duke in double overtime last week. The College Football Hall of Famer has led North Carolina to an 8-2 record following the nine-win season a year ago.” Brown has always been loved by players and the media alike, and being able to bring UNC back to relevancy has been nothing short of impressive.
If This is It
If we are nearing the end of Mack Brown’s Hall of Fame career, North Carolina fans have to be grateful. Twice, he has led the program to success. His second stint took a program on life support to the Orange Bowl, a nine-win season, and the potential for even more this season.
