UNC was dominant on offense throughout the game.
North Carolina beat Virginia Tech on Saturday night. The win had a lot to do with the Tar Heels effort on offense, which performed nearly as well as it had all season. The Hokies had no answer defensively, and UNC ran away with it late.
Elite Offense
North Carolina’s offense was firing on all cylinders during this one.
- North Carolina shot 51.5% in the game.
- 19/23 from the free throw line (82.6%).
- 14 offensive rebounds.
- 18 assists.
- 54 points in the paint!
Top Performances
Armando Bacot: 25 points and 11 rebounds.
RJ Davis: 20 points and 5 assists.
Cormac Ryan: 16 points
Harrison Ingram: 12 points and 17 rebounds, five of which were offensive rebounds.
As Bacot dominated down low, Ingram continued to make the hustle plays that North Carolina needed. Ingram flew around the court, grabbing rebounds and tapping the ball out on the offensive end. Davis continues to play at an All-American level, and Ryan had a nice get-right game.
Former Tar Heel Has Big Game
Tyler Nickel, who transferred to Virginia Tech from UNC this past offseason, also had a big game. Facing his former teammates, Nickel played 27 minutes, scoring 14 points on 5/8 shooting. He made four of the six three-point attempts he took and had the Hokies only three blocks.
Next up: UNC heads to Virginia on Saturday, where the team hasn’t won since 2012.
